Dear SeeChina,
Hi! I’m an undergraduate at Cornell University and majoring in China and Asia-Pacific Studies. I recently discovered your website and have found it very interesting. You can be sure I’ll check it regularly!
For a hobby, I draw comics, and since I’m studying Chinese I wanted to find some Chinese comics and cartoons to read and enjoy. Unfortunately, there aren’t too many online – I guess the webcomic craze hasn’t yet hit China. Could you recommend anything?
Also, I’m currently planning on traveling to China to study. If possible, I’d love to contribute an article or something similar.
Love the site, keep up the good work!
Best,
Ian R. Taylor

Dear Ian,
It’s great to have you with us which makes us feel much less lonely!
About the webcomic craze, actually it’s quite popular in China. Websites such as http://vod.ktxp.com/ are full of latest animations and cartoons from Japan, U.S., Europe, etc.. And the official estimation for the revenue of cartoon and animation last year was about 50 billion RMB (7 billion USD). As for Chinese comics and cartoons, See China also has advisors on this aspect (teachers in animation colleges and friends in gaming industry, etc.) we will surely try to work on more stories and recommend good works (did you see the Xia Da story?), there are a few already established ones as Cai Zhizhong (蔡志忠,famous for traditional Chinese stories), Zhu Deyong (朱德庸,famous for urban cynical series), Ji Mi (几米,for sentimental love stories), but more are still coming to the fore. Personally I would strongly recommend 麦兜 the Pig Mcdull http://www.mcdull.hk/ and Grandma and her ghosts http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjQ0NzIyNjA=.html
I’d be overjoyed to welcome you to China either for travel or study and invite you to join our See China parties and picnics (!), and if you’re interested in contributing articles, please check your email to see my details!
thank you again for visiting, with best wishes for you!

Hello Jessica:
This is to let you know that I sent some sample excerpts of my book titled The Six Patriarchs of Chinese Humanism to seechina10@gmail.com some four months ago, but have yet to receive any response (one way of the other) from the SeeChina people concerned. Can you check if my submission had in fact been received and let me know?

Hello Peter,
So sorry for my long absence due to force majeure. I’ve actually received your letter and am planning to upload your book excerpts as soon as the conditions are ripe. It was two months ago that this force majeure happened which made our seechina work fall into a standstill, but there is hope that everything will come back to normal and the site will improve dramatically after October. Please accept our sincere apologies. And I would like to avail this opportunity to express our regret to other anticipating visitors as well. Thank you so much for your patience!

As for links and advertisements, yes we’re very happy to do that. If we may, could we take one or two months to get some housekeeping done and then set our “ad/promotional strategy” before going back to our amicable friends? Thank you so much for such patience!

We noticed your interest… There are many Chinese film festivals being held by Chinese Embassies across the world, but only on an irregular basis. If you’re inquiring from Israel, may we suggest you contact the Cultural Section of the Chinese Embassy in Israel? There are also a few Chinese DVD companies which are seeking distribution abroad, such as Qiao Jia Ren, but it seems there will still be some time before we can see the online sharing of Chinese films in different languages. SeeChina is referring this matter to some experts of this field in China and we will try to get back to you soon. Again thank you for your kind attention and great question.
